The Hippocampal Subfields Group (HSG) is hosting a retreat from June 6-9th (Tuesday – Friday) at the University of Castilla-La Mancha in Albacete, Spain. This retreat will consist of (1) a two-day neuroanatomy workshop including hands-on dissection of the brain, with a focus on gross anatomy of the human hippocampus and parahippocampal gyrus, and (2) a two-day HSG working group meeting. The working group meeting will likely focus on further developing the hippocampal head segmentation protocol; however, the focus of the working group meeting will be finalized in the coming weeks.

Given facility and equipment constraints, the meeting will be limited to 32 in-person participants. We are able to cover travel costs for a limited number of in-person attendees. Priority will be given to individuals with previous MTL segmentation experience and involvement in the HSG, while leaving space for newcomers. We also aim to have a diverse group of attendees.

We are able to cover travel costs for a limited number of in-person attendees. Preference for travel fellowships will be given to individuals with prior manual segmentation experience to allow for an informed, productive meeting while also prioritizing individuals who (a) will contribute to the meeting’s diversity and/or (b) have been unable to participate in past meetings due to a lack of funding and/or resources – particularly trainees, junior faculty, women and minorities, individuals with disabilities, and individuals needing childcare.

We are currently soliciting applications for in-person attendees. Please apply by filling out the following Google Form: https://forms.gle/ZVatFVeTawFCUp1W8, which also includes a section for those interested in applying for the travel fellowship. Please submit your application by February 20th.

Note: Completing this application does NOT guarantee you a place in the retreat or guarantee travel funding. As noted above, we can only accommodate a limited number of in-person attendees and only fund a limited number of travel fellowships. We will notify you of our decision by mid-March at the latest.

Warm regards,
Laura Wisse, Valerie Carr, Ricardo Insausti, Mónica Muñoz-López, Gustaf Nilsson
